Why do so many of you assume it's the first letter? Apart from that, what gave you all the impression it was directed at yourselves in the first place?

I can easily see or read complete words out of it. Letters become even more funny if they are used to control the reaction of the person or situation you reside in, or whom you are speaking to, for you control the information he or she needs to work with. And as such can create some funny reactions. But it's something far different then symbolic communication which is used more intensely by animals. It's really interesting to go in depth with the history of communication though.
