theres no difference between reading a good book and reading a good comic book. If you can't see the artistic value or appreciate the art of storytelling then i guess its easy to just go "hur hur hur manga rofl" But theres a reason why if you go on japanese trains/buses you will find most men reading either newspapers or manga...theres no age limit to quality entertainment. The notion that comic books/manga are childish is a western idea that has been in the decline if Watchmen and 300 are proof of anything....they're just more visual form of storytelling...

I don't really appreciate the artistic value. It's a cartoon. I grew out of picture books way back when too.

Is it because you don't know anything about it? Alot of manga comes from anime or rather managas are adapted to anime. Are you going to say Gantz, Elfen Lied and Bible Black are what 10 year olds read? Evangelion(yes the manga was made AFTER the anime), Code Geass, Death Note, Gundam? How about Yaoi(gay) and yuri(lesbian) manga?

The Gekiga style of drawing — emotionally dark, often starkly realistic, sometimes very violent — focuses on the day-in, day-out grim realities of life, often drawn in gritty and unpretty fashions. Gekiga such as Sampei Shirato's 1959-1962 Chronicles of a Ninja's Military Accomplishments (Ninja Bugeichō) arose in the late 1950s and 1960s partly from left-wing student and working class political activism and partly from the aesthetic dissatisfaction of young manga artists like Yoshihiro Tatsumi with existing manga.

I do not watch Anime. I think that's childish too. I also have no idea what any of those things are that you mentioned...

sacchin he doesn't care and no amount of posting is going to change is mind. Im sure he does things that other people would call immature because in truth no one really grows up they just try to act like they have. My point is your not going to change his mind, at most you could get him to respect your opinion but over the internet that is a rarity too.
