I was roaming through the web searching for a cheap way to build a gaming PC and I came across this article. I was wondering if this PC is actually worth the 500$ now? ( Will it handle newer games? http://www.hardware-revolution.com/500-gaming-build/Specifics are within the link Also if I buy this, will installing XP help performance wise? Edit: Also for screen I was thinking of getting something like this, maybe a little smaller and proffered less than 110$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824005121

Not sure why the chose the weaker CPU, I mean the Phenom IIs are great CPUS, they really got everything right with them. Obviously its no i7, those are good but look at the price. Also not sure why they went with that GPU, sure it has DX11 but its weaker than a GTX260. Its more on par with the GTS250 which is rather weak. Sure it could play some games but its not going to do that well.

^ What tweaks do you recommend? I just don't want to spend more than 600$ on a new PC.

Two extra weeks working and you can buy a PC that is much better...Getting the bare minimum can easily lead to problems. Also for not much more you can find a nice 23" monitor deal or maybe a 22".

Can be surprised how much $500 can buy on a custom computer, built mine mid last year for I think, $504. Gets the job done, all games full settings, no lag. Dont have to spend as much when your building it yourself.
