Alright, for my 19th birthday I will probably get myself a new, or used car, with the help of my parents.
I thought of:
Subaru Impreza, not new ofcourse, used, in the range of $18k
Mazda 3 Speed, older models (dont like the 2010 ones)
Volkswagen Golf, 2.0T, 2007 and below
Nissan Sentra SER, 2007 and below
Cobalt SS, 2009 and below
Mitsubishi Lancer, 2008 and below
So what do you think / had previous experiences with any of these cars? Any critics good or bad?
Other suggestions are VERY welcomed, and I know to watch out for most of these cars since im probably buying used, the transmition will have to be checked thoroughly and the engine e.t.c.
I have a friend, which her father is a mechanic and can check the car that I will buy...
I know not to get a care above 60.000km (logically if a 2009 has 60.000km its stupid to buy)
Im not a complete retard when it comes to cars so dont assume that I am please, constructive comments are welcomed.
I'm not big on cars but I would go for the Lancer. Mainly because I'm more familiar with it - our first family car was a Lancer. My girlfriend drives one of those gas efficient Japanese cars...as for me, I just let my Learner's Permit expire. I'll start driving when the subways shut down or when I'm not too busy. =/
There's a red mini cooper parked near my house that has a plate number that says "M0VEB*H"
I think I wanna steal it.
Just get some 2nd hand cheap asian car that doesn't look like a hybrid prius.
Were I to buy a new one, I'd definately consider Honda Accord, Civic, Mitsu Lancer and maybe a Saab.

Yeah, cos one's own safety is so unnecessary. If you die, it doesnt matter as long as the car you trashed wasn't valuable. Besides, you can't expect all others to crash their first car just because you crashed yours.

I dont drive im building my own car or rather restoring one, also i dont know a single person who aint atleast put a ding in their first car
but getting such a good car is overkill, unless your a reckless driver then dont matter what car you drive your in danger
ontop of that insurance is really expensive for your first car
but seriously when you buy a car you actually expect to be in a serious crash that could kill you? if you drive with your head you shouldnt be in that situation

My first car cost me $2,600 and runs like a champ. hell a lot of miles but the person took care of their car. Oil changes every 3k miles and all that junk. Also looks almost like new. Few dings and scratches otherwise looks like new.
Already had the fun experience of hitting a snow bank though. Didn't hit it hard but it did leave a few scratches.
1. Some of those cars are 10 times better than each other. 2. First car with big engine = no insurance? 3. You probably can barely drive - just like most new drivers. If these cars arn't pocket change to you then your an idiot because you'll ruin it. 4. This isnt serious, right?

See at the start I was like you and wanted a seriously cool, amazing car, I had always wanted a Nissian Skyline but when I went to the insurance company they basically laughed at me, I was 18 without any no claim bonus.
I decided to get a Totoya Corolla T-Sport:
I worked up 3 years no claims and then I got my Skyline but it has to be the worst choice I have ever made in my life, car is amazing and turns a lot of heads but me just going to college and back (25 miles in total) costs me £10 ($16.25) on fuel!
I am trading the Skyline is soon for an Audi A4 Diesel.

Alright, most of you think that
1. im a Farking blind guy trying to drive? I might not have much experience, but I know how to drive...
2. insurance isnt a problem, we have good insurance, I can find under 1400$ a year.
3. honda's are a big no no don't like them
4. my mom doesn't want me to buy anything under 4k... so yea
Yes this is serious, maybe I didn't mention it enough in my first post, yes I will have the money for it.
All I wanted to know is if you had any previous experiences with any of the cars I mentioned, thanks to the ones that replied, and to the ones that trolled gtfo, and don't be jealous...
I will have the money for it okay?
NO i don't want to drive some piece of shit, im sorry if im too "cool" for most of you, but I want something that will give me some power under the pedal, and not telling myself holy fuuck I cant get on the highway cuz im too slow...
So anyone else wana comment on the cars? or something else in that range?

insurance companies wont care for your word. theyll see a kid who has 1 year of driving with a fast car. since when are all old cars slow? my toyota cressida 92 is great. doing 85 when i go to san fran
oh and everyone at that age thinks they are good at driving. where in reality they arnt
Try a Nissan 350z, or Infiniti G35, since insurance isn't a problem. Both are fast, and the G35 is luxurious too. But if your looking for strictly new then atleast give the Honda accord a chance, it is a pretty nice car, you may change your mind about honda after you try one.

The problem is you're never alone on the roads. For example there are people who just got their driving license and their daddy's bought em a new sports car and who greatly overestimate their driving skill and experience and who are too cool to drive a car that can't break the sound barrier... You get the picture.
To be honest I currently drive a vintage car that is a almost guaranteed death in the event of a crash... But I'll definately be buying another, safer car when I'll have offspring.
