Some of you might have heard about this already. Last night in the Occupy Oakland protests the protests escalated when the police started brutally cracking down on the peaceful protesters. The police used teargas and flashbangs to force protesters to disperse, or so they hoped. In the process Scott Olsen, a veteran who returned from 2 tours to Iraq in 2010, was seriously injured as well as several others received non-severe injuries. Have a look yourself:
Code: Select all
This is not Egypt or Siria, this is the US...
And now look at what happened to Scott Olsen:
Code: Select all
He gets hit in the head by the canister, lies on the ground obviously injured and when people try to come to help, the police throw a flashbang right in the middle. None of the policemen offered to help the half-unconcious man and he was carried off by protesters. He is now in critical condition. More here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blog/2011/oct/26/occupy-oakland-protests-live.
Seriously farked up, making something out of nothing, contributing to peace with rubber bullets and flash bangs? I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here.

I notice all the emphasis on that guy being a veteran. Does that mean you would want it ignored if he was say... some kid that stocks shelves at the local wal-mart?

Not at all but there is a certain pride in going to Iraq and risking your life for the people in your home country. That's what people think anyways, so people tend to emphasize more with the people who went to war for the US and then get attacked by the legal forces of the country that you fought for.
I personally think there is no pride whatsoever in any kind of physical wars but that is for another discussion.
From what I have gotten from the OWS movement, they are specifically opposing the billion dollar 'saving packages' that are being given to banks that failed due to terrible management and greed. They have a slogan that's fairly widespread which says that there should be no companies that are "too big to fail".

Wow I love this sum moar <3 The tea party said the exact same thing... but were called a bunch of angry violent racist... by the very same ppl who are at these current protest. Maybe if they had stood with the "angry violent racist" they could have gotten their point across a lot better/sooner/less violently. I just don't seem to remember any police having to shoot into a tea party crowd...
Number of Tea Party protesters arrested - 0? Number of OWS protesters arrested - 100s?
Only difference between the two(on that point).. The tea party wanted big business out of government and wanted a smaller central government... Where these kids want business out of government, and want government bigger and to control businesses... Hmmm sounds like an ideology that's been tried a couple times before.

I think I might have a little more respect for this guy: [/yt]
Speaking of Peter Schiff, that guy has acutally been telling people about this coming crisis for about ten years. HE already knew what predicted all of this stuff and has been advising people how to get ready and not get caught up in this mess.
Really at least according to what hes been saying the past ten years, its not really the tax cuts that have been the problem, but the Governments b.s.ing that got the country into this mess. Basically this guy is like another Ron Paul only with more knowledge of what is going on in wall street.
The problem I had with the tea party is that it pretty much came with a mission to get rid of Obama, basically because he's black(along with the birthers etc) and took Ron Paul's Message into its own slogan. A lot of the Tea Partiers were pretty much Against Obama at the start, saying all these things that Ron Paul had been saying for 25-30 years.
The whole Republican support of the tea party at the start didnt help matters either. It used to always annoy me that when Ron Paul was saying the same things that the tea partiers and republicans started saying, about balanacing the budget, fiscal responsibility etc. . .during the 8 years of Bush, that kind of thinking was thoguht of as foolish or unamerican etc, Only when you get a black guy in office that you wanna get rid of, do those ideals now seem American etc etc. . .
Its like really you guys? where were you during the 8 years of bush and the 2 wars that he got us in without the consent of the people?
the things that Peter Schiif and ron paul have been saying for the past TEN years hasnt changed, its just now the people who caused the situation to begin with are *listening* becuase they want to get the black guy out of office and get themselves back in office.
Where were these tea partiers and protesters when during the bush administration, Henry Paulson basically stole Billions of Dollars as Treasury secretary, in bailouts to his wall st. friends. they were strangely silent (except for petter schiif and ron paul)
Now they want to have fiscal responsibility? I call bs on this. There are a lot of things I can say about that whole thing but really I need to stop here, there are a lot of *movements* now that are popping up when they should have been here years ago. Now its a little hard for me to believe that they REALLY want the government to actually do what it is supposed to do in the area of fiscal responsibility.

The whole Tea party are a bunch of racist like the republican party argument goes null once you check the polls... Heard of Herman Cain?
Again the only ppl who have every made it about race are the ones that aren't aligned with the tea party. I went to a few tea parties myself and never once did race come up(and yes there were black ppl there). Anyone that I talked to that wanted Obama out of office, the reasoning behind it was his policy and ideology. Bush had something like an 80% approval rating during the time we went into those two wars. (the wars the ppl were against) The tea party was always against bailing out big business and was against bush's bailouts as well... The only reason there wasn't as many protest(from the right) when he was in office was simply because not enough momentum had built up. I mean look who was running the congress during the time of the biggest financial melt down of our generation. As many ppl wanna blame bush for what happened, yet chris dodd and barney frank were the whole reason we got into that crap. I blame Bush and Obama for making things worse with their retarded polices.
... And most the tea party already knew of this coming, not only from Ron Paul, but Glenn Beck warned about it years back as well. (but he's just a crazy racist who only says this stuff cuz he knew Obama would be elected in 08 and he had to start early at getting a half black half white man out of office.)
Since hermain cain got mentioned I'll post this here
(its real..)
Also, on the OWS protests, they are just pissed that while the businesses have been showing records profits, there is still high unemployment, and that while the rich have gotten richer, the poorer/medium income have gotten poorer. Basically the trickle-down economics of republicans dont work for shit. I dont have the stat/graphs, i remember reading it on a (legitimate) website.
Also tea party is a fake grassroot movement sponsored by corporations and led by tards like Palin and Bachmann. And perry. And ofc Glen Beck, who was talking so much crap. that Fox had to cancel his show because of the amount of bullshit on it.
You know you are in trouble when your main/most popular candidate is someone that knows absolutely nothing about anything (fits all the republicans) like Cain.

lol... Sounds to me like the only one that doesn't have a clue what they are talking about is you... You're gonna talk about economics after you just got done saying the rich get richer and the poor are getting poorer? I'm sorry... Without the rich to provide jobs for the "poor" where the hell would these jobs come from? Not even sure you get the concept of actual true capitalism... (the dirty word for the liberals)
Based off your other post, I'd say your reply to this is going to be so far off from the reality of things, I doubt I'd bother replying to it, just like your last response to one of my post...
... Oh and WTF? Where was my money I shoulda been paid for attending one of those AstroTurf protest?
Well I meant corporations still have high profits while the unemployment isnt going down any lower. Again i forgot where i read the article and i gave up searching for it.
And please, Im some random kid on the interet trying to understand the situation, the Republican candidates are possible presidents that continually get simple facts wrong and talk complete shit after continually being briefed by their staffs
And i mean campaigned/made popular by, led by politicians (very stupid ones) that are sponsored by corporations (as all politicians are).
