Ibrahimovic: 'Guardiola bullied me'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has lifted the lid on his extraordinary fall-out with Pep Guardiola, claiming the Barcelona coach "bullied" him and that he responded with a verbal assault in which he accused the Catalan of "having no balls".

In 2009 Ibrahimovic arrived at Barca in a £40 million-plus exchange deal, with Samuel Eto’o going the other way to Internazionale. The Sweden striker started life at the Camp Nou in fine fashion, scoring seven times in his first seven Liga matches, but his extrovert personality - and the decision to play Lionel Messi in a more central role - resulted in a huge rift with Guardiola.

In his new autobiography, Ibrahimovic accepted some responsibility for the fall-out, but largely blamed Guardiola for ostracising him. "It was a childhood dream and I was walking on air," Ibrahimovic was quoted as writing in his book by several Swedish newspapers. "It started well but then Messi started to talk. "He wanted to play in the middle, not on the wing, so the system changed from 4-3-3 to 4-5-1. I was sacrificed and no longer had the freedom on the pitch I need to succeed. "So I asked for a meeting with Guardiola - for a discussion, not an argument. I said I was being used in the wrong way and that they shouldn’t have bought me if they wanted another type of player. "I told him what a friend had said to me - 'you bought a Ferrari but drive it like a Fiat'. The chat seemed to go well but then Guardiola started to freeze me out.

"I would walk into a room; he would leave. He would greet everyone by saying hello, but would ignore me. "I had done a lot to adapt - the Barca players were like schoolboys, following the coach blindly, whereas I was used to asking 'why?'. I like guys who run red lights, not pedantic and strict rules. So I tried to be overly nice, didn’t dare lose my temper. "But after this I stopped trying to adapt. For example, at Barca players were banned from driving their sports cars to training. I thought this was ridiculous - it was no-one’s business what car I drive - so in April, before a match with Almeria, I drove my Ferrari Enzo to work. It caused a scene."

Ibrahimovic lost his place to youngster Bojan, currently on loan at Roma, and had all-but accepted he would be on his way out of the club. He pinpointed the first major row he had with Guardiola, after a 4-1 win against Villarreal during which the former Juventus and Ajax forward only played five minutes. "(Pep) was staring at me and I lost it. I thought ‘there is my enemy, scratching his bald head’. I yelled to him: ‘you have no balls!’ And probably worse things than that. "I added: 'You are s***ing yourself because of (then-Internazionale manager Jose Mourinho, whose side beat Inter in the Champions League). You can go to hell!’ I was completely mad. "I threw a box full of training gear across the room, it crashed to the floor and Pep said nothing, just put stuff back in the box. "I’m not violent, but if I were Guardiola I would have been frightened."

Ibrahimovic said that, on the advice of his wife, he tried to make peace with Guardiola and fight for his place at the club, despite the purchase of David Villa. But he claimed that Guardiola was unresponsive, and that the former Spain midfielder would continue to "bully" him, after which a loan move to Milan was arranged. Ibrahimovic impressed with 14 goals in 28 matches as the Rossoneri won the Serie A title, and has scored seven in nine games in all competitions so far this season.[/quote]

Guardiola probably perceived him as a problem personality amongst the team that can negatively affect team moral and that's why he got treated that way. Every player wants to be the star of the show (or would like to be). I've been there. Some players despite how skillful they are...are no good for the overhaul benefit of the team. Ibrahimovic portrays himself as a rule breaker...a non conformist which is fine but not the type of behavior required in a game that relies on teamwork.

In my humble opinion anyways...the most valuable player on the field in football is the player that creates scoring opportunity/chances for his teammates...the job that is often of the midfielder.

TL;DR: Zlatan QQ on Barcelona because Messi is better and Zlatan got 'demoted' because of it. Didn't like his new position, went emo with the coach, went to Milan and is now unleashing his fury in a riveting tale of emo rage a.k.a. his autobiography.

Ibrahimovic a douche?

Ibra is right. When you attract a player like Ibra with his quality and achievements, you have to give him the freedom to prove himself. You can't expect to attract Ronaldo to Barca and then tell him to play in service of Messi. Same thing goes for Ibra. And he wasn't whining about Messi being better, but about the fact the whole Barca team is playing in serveice of Messi leaving no room for him to show his quality.

IMO Ibra is one of the best players in the history of football and Barca should've treated him better. I didn't see Ibra creating any other problems at other teams.

TBH this really makes him look more like a douche
And didn't Guardiola wanna keep Eto'o anyways? But the board of Barca wanted a big buy (after Ronaldo going to Madrid) so they bought Ibra and Inter got the best steal of all time.

He couldav still tried and prove his worth under the circumstances. Players are always vying for the starting roll. He should take lesson from his own beliefs. Just because a new field formation calls for 4-5-1 doesn't mean he has to always try and give Messi the ball to score.

If management thinks that a new formation or new player is needed to fit their strategy then the best Ibra should do is allow them to prove themselves wrong. But I guess he was too full of himself or management's new tactics wasn't wrong so he had to bitch. At the end of the day the team winning games supersedes where he thinks he should play or how good he think he is. Barca isn't hurting without him.

Ibra is a player that makes plays by himself, with this he doesnt belong in barca because the team works TOGETHER to win. The way hes playing is for Madrid which gets players like him and CR7 and also soon Neymar. Messi is garbage without the rest of his team and hes proven that with the international games he plays for argentina.

I wouldnt say Messi is garbage without the rest of the Barca players, he is still world class and if you watch some of the Barca games he does most of the work himself.

(although his international record for Argentina is shockingly bad).

As for Ibra....he is a massive twat, thinks he is better then he is and if you were his manager, and found him in your bed with your wife he would slap you for disturbing them. He is that type of guy....a massive douche/dickhead

LOL he does portray himself as that kind of guy. The mere fact that he relates to the idea that he's like a Ferrari that's been driven like a Fiat further shows this. He's a very good footballer in my opinion. I wouldn't put him in the top 10 of all time but he's very good nonetheless. But players like him let their arrogance get in the way of them even being greater. Their need to be acknowledged as number 1 supersedes the requirements of how to properly acquire the title of number 1.
