Hello, Due to the late increase in new pservers, I have found out that there is no real originality anymore, we came from the time when we were happy with just having a sillkroad pserver that wasn't hosted by joymax, but now even that doesn't seem to suffice anymore. That's why I would like to ask you guys, what kind of stuff do you want to see in sro? Nothing is impossible, and I'd like to hear game changing ideas, but even small balance fixes would make me happy. For now this is really quite a bit abstract, I'm not really looking in starting a new pserver on my own (since what happened to zelos last time), but even if nothing decent comes out of it, we could see that there are still people out there who just want to play silkroad, without all the pserver drama and secret lucrative agendas. So, ideas as you please, the sky is the limit! (it doesn't have to be possible with the public vsro files, but it would make it a lot more realistic, who knows we could reignite npcdoom and make him finish the zelos emulator )

How realistic would it be to create a new race? One day I had this dream about the arabian race that was supposed to come to SRO, those guys were sitting on top of flying carpets nuking shit below them. Or a true PvP server, kinda like WoW, where you choose a "clan" or something when you start out. Each clan starts in their own region without any safe zones anywhere, so that you can always get attacked by any enemy clan. Should be fun to raid another clan's city and kill their NPC's. Imo, you can learn alot by looking at other MMORPG's to see which unique ideas they have and see whether it's possible to recreate it in SRO.

Creating a new race that is different is very hard in SRO. It's easier just to make a new game in Unity than to try and create new game mechanics on this old engine.

I'd stick with zelos since it offers more flexibility.
I wanted to see the towns and outposts belong to factions such as thief or hunter. Place a re supply npc and teleport which is bound to the occupying job.
Also have a tower dungeon which creates an instance for each union. Give it 20 levels or so. To advance to the next level have multiple uniques which must be killed an once the final one dies all members of the union teleport to the next level. Have the dungeon with monsters whose level match the cap and which get stronger on each level. Offer rarer drops at higher levels. Also right before the group teleports to the next level anyone who is dead gets forced out of the instance. I'd elaborate on it more but I'm on a phone now.
We could brainstorm around the ideas above. But I recommend focusing on end game content and jobbing as that is what silkroad lacks and what makes it unique.

I smell multiple SAO references in this idea, not that that's a bad thing. Don't think that would be possible, at least not easily, with SRO's engine though.

Hm, what i really would want to see in a SRO private server would be a complete overhaul of the farming (Gap) system. Basically currently there isn't much difference between Gap 0 and Gap 9 sp-wise. You only notice it in terms of EXP, as you only get 1/10 of the usual EXP.
I was thinking maybe you just double the SP gain for each gap increase. So, if you get 1 SP for Gap 0, you would get 2 SP for Gap 1, 4 SP for Gap 2, 2^x SP for Gap x. However that would leave you at 2^9=512 SP on Gap 9, which is probably way too much (You would get 1Mio. SP in the period of time, where you would normally get 2k SP). You would easily get FF in no time like that.
So exponential increase in SP-gain is apparently too much, but the slow linear increase on ISRO is too low. I think it would be ideal, if you end up with 10x or maybe 20x SP on Gap 9. Then it would actually make sense to open a gap.
I would suggest a formula like: (100+100*x)%, where x is again your gap. That would mean on Gap 0, you get 100% SP (base value). On Gap 1, you would get 200% SP (double SP). Gap 2 would give you 300% SP, and so forth. On Gap 9 you would end up with 1000% SP, which means 10-times the SP than on Gap 0. So making a Gap would actually be worth it. You already get more SP with Gap 1, than on normal servers with gap 9 (=pure win). Of course one would have to actually try these formula's and maybe tweak the factors a little.
One could probably also try out an exponential increase with a base between 1 and 2. Something like 1.4^x or 1.5^x.
An exponential increase would favor high gaps more than low gaps, for a linear increase (with a proper factor) it would be better to keep a rather low gap. The reward for the really high gaps (6 and higher) wouldn't be that great anymore.
That would make gapping much more rewarding (especially an exponential increase, but base 2 is apparently way too high).
Basically there are 2 formulas, which i would suggest for the gap system:
1. Exponential Increase: C*a^x C: Base SP with Gap 0 a: Arbitrary constant, which can be used to modify the SP gain. x: Current Gap (values from 0 to 9 only. Anything higher than 9 will just yield the same result as gap 9)
2. Power Law Increase: C*(1+a*x)^n C: Base SP with Gap 0 a: Arbitrary constant, which can be used to modify the SP gain. n: Exponent of the power law. For n=1, you would get the linear increase. x: Current Gap (values from 0 to 9 only. Anything higher than 9 will just yield the same result as gap 9)
As an example, ISRO uses formula Nr. 2 with the following constants: a=0.1 n=1 I would suggest to modify the constants, that you get around 10x or 20x SP on Gap 9. That should be quite fair.
Also, a higher n-value would favor bigger gaps more than lower gaps. But obviously for exponential increase, it would favor large gaps the most.
Not sure, if such modifications on the gap system are even possible on usual private servers, which are based on official files. But with an emulator it shouldn't be hard to change it.

Give academy buffs to players for something other than graduates. With the higher rates of psro this only led to multiclients. I would say tie it into the old job system. Trader gets speed increase for him and possibly transport. Hunter gets zerk buff and thief gets dmg or def buff.
That or give it to guild and/or union leaders based on the population of their guilds or unions.

I really would like to see a server with higher mobs than the cap. Example: Cap is 100 and the mobs go up till 110. Refresh of the old job system. For each reached job level there is a special reward (maybe SP). Double/Triple Unique spawns at the same place (fighting 2 difference uniques at same time). Very rare armor set from highest unique of the server. Absolute damage skill of cleric still should 1-hit "full white" opponents. Not that "full blue" over power like it was on salvation. Include a PvP Ranking or Guild War Ranking. Decrease the capacity of an Union to maximal 100 people. There should be no over powered cap gear. SoX weapons/armors at cap should be luck and not a reachable with coins or sth like that.

Because why should the best gear be obtained from "luck" as opposed to skill? Makes a lot more sense/more fun to know that if you rape ass in PvP and/or unique hunting, you'll get gear. Instead of some random baddie getting a lucky drop while afk botting.

Yeah. Even if it's only pure ints, who aren't in LT, that's dumb as well.

At a normal server a cleric absolutes can 1-hit an every full white armor int char. Just look at the HP and the dealed abs. damage. At 90 cap i 1-hitted every white armor int char.
And over powered cap gear sucks for new comers. At the best sro times were no cap gear like it is with cap 110+ (egypt). And i did not say that there should be NO cap gear. Rare drops from an unique as cap gear.
