So yeah welcome to team Sony xfa gs = p

Yea I have been looking at Shadow Fall and it does look very nice. Unfortunately i doubt it will have as big a mainstream impact in the US, which kinda sucks for the multiplayer part of the game.
Not like theres a lack of multiplayer fps for PS4 at launch though, BF4 :sohappy:

the wii isnt a beefed up gamecube and the wii u wasnt a beefed up wii...

and i think there was enough of a difference between ps2 and ps3, a home interface, online capabilities, HD capable, blu-ray player and ability to play with the psp.

xbox 360 didnt add too much more, hd and blu-ray, better online system with its connected interface and friend system, ability to watch netflix and hulu was a big change in how people viewed content and its browser.

so no, i dont think a ps3 was a beefed up ps2 or xbox360 a beefed up original

Which is why the system was shit for a couple years. You mention all this, but forget the fact that it had no games. Also PSP remote play was dropped like instantly. Nobody uses it.

Current hardware destroys both new gen consoles, don't be confused. Games will look better due to optimazation for those specific hardware setups but they don't actually have more computing power than mid range pc configurations.

ive been saying for about 2-3 years now that hardware has over-taken software...

i think software needs to be optimized, its the coding thats lacking behind the hardware and we dont need better and better hardware to cope with it (even though it does help)

You do realize how time consuming it is to make a program to run a single line a step faster is, right? You also do realize plenty of software use assembly to do that and that assembly is one of the most time consuming, boring, and hard to program for. Which is why they get paid extreeeeeeeemly well.

It's simply cheaper to program software that is slightly bloated and let the hardware take care of the rest. So for a game to do those operations faster will probably have a slight gain in frames. In a normal software like I dunno.. word, steam, itunes, etc etc it just doesn't matter as long as it's responsive and loads the next part up.

And hardware has always been the limited factor to software even if you made your simulation in the most time efficient cycle possible. You simply cannot have a quadtrillion triangles or have ray tracing active in a real time application with steady frames and 100% render.

oh yea, i understand its hard but a good example you gave there was itunes and steam... both of those programs worked on windows XP and now theyre on windows 7 64 bit with 4x the amount of ram and yet they dont run any faster or more efficient. In-game steam still causes your game to not respond for like a minute and is not optimized to perform with more accessible computing power, more ram and faster drives.

Now you're using 'optimize' in the wrong way. Optimization is used for making the program run faster as I said previous making it run a line step faster. Freezing is more or less bugs/issues/features.

Code:
op·ti·mize
/ˈäptəˌmīz/
Verb
Make the best or most effective use of (a situation, opportunity, or resource).
Rearrange or rewrite (data) to improve efficiency of retrieval or processing.

Again making code to run a single step faster is very time consuming and it's not worth the money unless you desperately need to do so since assembly is straight down talking to the hardware. Considering Steam does run ultimately better than it did 9 years ago and even 5 years ago, is improvement. The excess use of RAM is more or less Steam slowly becoming bloated with features or you have the main window up. Surprise! If you don't have the main window up, it slowly discards loaded memory that it isn't using. That's optimization where it's using the memory efficiently.

uh... i find it memory extensive even running just in the task bar... I wont even allow it running unless I want to play games. also, freezing is related to the optimization of code directly... making something run faster and use memory much more efficiently allows it to do what it wants to do without causing other programs to not respond. I cant be the only one who has to wait a while when i press ctrl shift tab for the first time in a game...

There have always been 3rd party controllers that are modeled like the Xbox controllers. There is already one for the PS4.

Spoiler!

itunes is a piece of shit for playing music. winamp is 'bad', but I use it anyhow. Doesn't use up too much resources so I don't care.

Am I really the only one that enjoys the Dual Shocks over the 360 controller? Hell I loved the original xbox slim controller, huge was still pretty decent despite being huuuge.

^ Perhaps. Personally, after some years owning a PS1 and PS2 and moved to XBOX 360, Dual Shock controllers are a bit uncomfortable to play with, comparing a XBOX controller.

Yeah but's kind of stupid to have to rely on 3rd party hardware to play with something that doesn't hurt your thumbs...
I'm 100% certain Sony has received a lot of complaints/requests for a better controller. If they don't wanna change their original design, you'd think they'd make a 2nd type some point but no...

other than blu-ray, what has sony brought to the table in terms of game console innovation?

power is not an innovation.

eye-toy? Or was there something before the eye-toy?

btw I'm not actually sure if it was e3 content or not, but is anybody else really impressed with Dust514's concept?

Using cams for interactions was brought first by ps as far as I can remember, the ps controller is another piece of good hardware they got right a long time ago.

Being able to connect online with consoles was them first also I would say and hmm the psp was another first.

There is also that ps consoles have always been able to play media which translates into a console being more than just for gaming. The "center of the living room" buzz term everyone is happy to chant has been true about ps for a long time.

I wish publishers would learn not to fuck around with DRM; unless it's on Steam

Sony wont require online checks, so aside from online passes which I think Sony already said they wouldn't be having either i'm not sure what kind of drm they could have.

Also I think EA says the online pass wasn't worth the bad PR.

They need to knock this shit off and focus on making some good god damn products, they will sell well regardless of used and piracy, then lead to more products. Its a never ending stream of jobs and money, yet its not enough.

Being able to connect online with consoles was them first also I would say and hmm Didnt dreamcast do that first? the psp was another first.
with... the touch back pad was the only feature that was really any different from anything we had seen before.

There is also that ps consoles have always been able to play media which translates into a console being more than just for gaming. The "center of the living room" buzz term everyone is happy to chant has been true about ps for a long time.
Sega Saturn did this for media, i think the playstation 2 had the ability to play DVD's which was new

I think xbox hasnt made too many wide steps out of the box too but I think theyve done more than sony has if you compare xbox and 360 with ps2 and 3.

Since when did consoles ever even have piracy issues anyway? what's the f*ckin point of DRM on consoles in the first place?
