its not about earning money its about ripping peopel off

:D

A rip off would be if you buy an item for a uber high price yet they cost less...

Like for exsample: you buy a wep elixir for 500k, not 300k as usuall

But the thing with sos is that almost every sos staller sold their sos crap for same amout +/- some mil...

Basicly till ppl buy overpriced items, nothing will change...

Last event + gold buying screwed economy :(

Another thing.
There's goes more money in a server then there goes out.
The only thing people spend their money on are pots/horses/.... and maybe in the beginning npc gear.
But the game generates money with gold drops, quest reward, equipement drops.

If there's a lot of gold prices will rise eventually.

Depends on the drop rate, though. For a while weap elixers on RS were up to 350k-375k, but in a week they became MUCH more common and were selling for 275k-300k. Elements also, within the month I've been playing elements started off being very profitable to being harder to sell. The "market" I've been working with lately is good LVL 16 items, many times i can find and buy good ones in stalls for at or below NPC cost and resell for (relative) big profit. Perhaps JM tweaks the drop rates of certain items to try bringing balance into the economy?

No its not teh drop rate, its just peoples greed.

Also added with the fact that most player have no idea that 300k for a
weapon elixar is a ripoff adds to the problem.

hopefully within the next few up dates i would love to see the NPC to sell
elixiars or even scrolls....that way theres finally some proper competition
and not the retard-opoly that we have now.

:D

Perhaps. I'm just saying it is nearly impossible to find a weap elixer on RS for less than 250k right now. Most are priced up to 375k.

And just because an NPC sells something doesn't really matter. I was in Jangan and someone was WTB a return scroll, so I said I have one, I figured I'd get it out of my inv. He comes up, does the exchange, and I was thinking he'd put up like 4k or something, but he puts in 20k and hits accept. It didn't matter he could have just walked 10meters and bought one for 5k from an NPC. Was about level 18 also, so it isn't like he was a total newb, just in a hurry, so I took it. Or looking at the number of stalls selling regular job items for 25k-30k IN TOWN, and people buy them! Some players just spend on whatever. Probably farmed gold, you can get 10mil for $10 from the global spam I see daily.

Well thats the problem too....why the f**k spend 20k when you can get
it for 5k....i dont care what lv he was....thats being retarded ok.

and if there was less gold in the game it would solve the problem....
with less gold people would be more carefull what they buy...and as such
prices would have to come down.

so i say the SilkRoad economy needs a big gold crash, yes it will be bad
but in the long run it would help matters.

Well I think there's just an influx of retarded newbies coming on, or making their way to their stalls. They figure that since there might be those two or three people out there willing to pay 40mil for a 42+3 sos glaive, that everyone is willing to pay that price. I'm quite often seeing people selling their sos items at ridiculously high prices (their not that rare; look around you!!), and I keep seeing them week after week. The same items. I believe there's a bit of a vicious cycle going on; because no is buying their overpriced items, they don't have any money to buy other people's overpriced items. They few people who do have the money and are willing to spend it are their only motivation.

People can't quite grasp the new changes (alchemy, stones, etc.). They think that because their gloves have a Lucky 2x, they can sell it way over the normal price.

A tried a true way that I've been able to sell my items, for a reasonable profit, and fast, is simply to take the NPC purchasing price and multiply it by 2. Of course, this doesn't work for all items (such as elixers and plused or sos items), but it works well in general.

If you really want to consider the SRO economy like a somewhat functioning real economy, and you study economics, like myself, there are some things to consider.

For example, an increase in money (gold) causes inflation. That's a pretty well known fact in economics. So one might be able infer that, at least to some extent, gold botting (and ultimately the sale of gold to players) may be a culprit to the increased prices. If more people are suddenly having more money than regular, you will see a jump in prices. It's probably impossible to measure the significance of this alone, however.

All in all, our best hopes are to educate the overpricers, avoid buying from them, and being reasonable and rational with your own sales.

A few rational people selling reasonably priced items can help reduce prices.

Well for the most part I sell normal items at 2x the NPC buyback rate, which is pretty much the usual price you could buy one for from NPC. Actually if there is nothing special about it often I'll sell for just less than this amount. HOWEVER...

Certain things, such as the LVL 16 bow I found with a stupidly high crit I didn't exactly want to sell right off until I knew the true value. So, I priced it at 75k, for a bow that is normally 16k. I didn't think it would sell. My usual procedure when I don't know the value is to set it out for a retarded amount of gold and leave it overnight, if it doesn't sell the next time I drop the price down until it does sell. I set up a stall in DW selling a bunch of stuff, including that bow for 75k, and in the morning the ONLY thing that sold was the bow!! Someone actually payed that much! Since then I've been collecting lvl 16 items, but I don't sell them for that much anymore, just something reasonable like 21k-25k. But you can't fault the staller per se. Or take last night, I had a lvl 10 shield with a block of 16, and some nice blues. The handy prog I got from here that helps calc prices said I could get 8k for it. I wasn't exactly wanting to sell it, I was considering saving it for a redo character, so I priced it at 18k. And it sold.

Capitalism 101, an item is worth what someone is willing to pay. I know I've passed on some good gear before for my own use because I didn't feel it was worth what they were asking for and wouldn't come down. The only vote we have is with our digital wallets, but it doesn't matter when there are plenty of others willing to pay the high amounts. As a result the only thing I feel I can do now is try to just slightly under cut the other sellers, which is STILL an inflated price, just so I myself can afford the gear I want. One thing I used to do when I was a total newb starting out, when I'd get a Rudolph I'd check the stalls or chat for callouts on prices, then I'd call out a price just below it. I sold a ton of those that way. Eventually that became prominent and the price bottomed out at like 30k. By then I just saved a few in storage for after the event was over and they were rare again. I have two still I'm sitting on.

Well yes i have to agree with some of your points again....

seeing how NPC sells an item and around 2x less its orginal price it should
give us a scale on to which we can base the prices of all otehr items.

saying that in hotan i brought a lv60+ glave for 800k from a stall...when
i did another play told me it was a rip off and that she had a better one
talking a look at her glave when she open her stall..

a glave the same as i just brought, but +1 for......40million

no lie..it was 40million, and didnt even have any blues, just increased
attack power by 30points....

:D

Some good points raised here. I agree completely that the players determine the economy, and not JM. While everyone continues to copy other traders' inflated prices nothing will change.

However, while this is not ideal if you're looking to buy something specific, it does mean that it's easy to compete with other sellers, and competition is important for any economy - drop your prices 10% lower than the next guy, and you'll sell a lot faster. The number of times I see the same people trying to sell their SOS 3d clothes for over a million gold, and see them again a week later with the same stuff. Meanwhile, I'm selling similar stuff for a third of the price and shifting everything.

Sure, you may feel that you're losing out because you're not hitting the same profit margin as the next guy, but what he doesn't realise is that in terms of cash flow, he could be waiting some time for his paycheck, while you're already laughing all the way to the bank. Or storage. Whatever.

lol...too ture...but i think someone summed it up quite well before...

"newbis with money dont care how much they spend as long as they
get their item" (not a direct quote)

if gold becomes a rare comoditiy then things will get better.

They wont, ever.. since goldbots are spoiling the situation. Grrr.

Best thing is find good ppl around, and they can lend money to you.
1st day in SRO, i get to know with this Phillipines guy, he invited me to his clan and gave me like 15 mil with sos lvl 16(+5) bow for farming.

I was so lucky, hehe.
Got really many stuffs and well.. gave him like 4 prepaid cards(pin & serial)

Sometimes, I do wonder why prices flutuate that very high... =/

he gave you 15million.....and i wonder why people say newbis have to
much money.....lol

i personly can get 90k gold from drops in about 1 hour fo grinding.
now if that became say 10k due to SRO limtiing the ammount of gold
dropped then the game would get better.

:D

Everyone claims that they love the idea of stalls, but then complain later about things like: lag in towns and being unable to connect due to AFK stallers, stallers standing over NPCs making it hard to click on them, items taking too long to sell, and sellers overpricing items. All of these can be fixed by sychronized auction houses. Auction houses placed at storages and two at each gate of every town would eliminate the massive build ups in each city. Yes there would still be some build up at the ACs but not to the degree there is now with 100s of AFK stallers. People would come, place items for sale and/or buy items, and leave. This means less lag in towns due to less AFK stallers so more people could connect. This also creates a more accurate and "new player friendly" market since everyone knows what things sell for. I don't understand why people are so opposed to this. The only reasoning I can see is that some people just like overcharging and hoping that someone who saved all their money for weeks will come by and overpay for some random item and dont have the patience to look through 100+ stalls in 3 towns looking for a better deal. So flame me if you want and say "Go play WoW or SWG if you want an auction house", but next time you save for weeks in hopes to buy a good item useable at your level, only to lag for an hour searching through overpriced AFK stallers, come and tell me how "fun" that was.

I've read posts where people argue that stalls are the economy of SR and with an auction houses the prices will skyrocket. My question to you is, how is it you think prices will go up having a better informed consumer. The reason the prices are so high now, is because people DON'T know what else is out there, how much it costs, and are afraid to leave something they want when they find it, even when it is insanely overpriced. So they settle for higher prices, spend all their money on an item and then have to start saving again for days-weeks just for more useable gear. If a seller jacks the price up in an auction house, buyers will see the comparison right in front of them and not give in to the overpriced seller. Then there are some people say that the opposite will happen and prices will fall and collapse the economy. No seller is going to consistently sell something at 33% to 99% below other sellers get for similar items. Sellers are in the business of making money and they will always charge what they think they can get. Yes, there will be times that there is a high lvl Glavie +5 for 1 mil while every other high lvl Glavie with a "+" is 20+ mil and that weapon is going to sell first, but NO SELLER is going to do that consistently. Sellers and buyers both want a fair price and the only way to do that is for everyone to know what everything sells for. Stalls don't allow that to happen, auction houses do. Also, despite some people think, AFK stallers DO bog down the server. Thinking they don't is just ignorant. Any connection, whether that person is fighting or afk stalling, is a connection. So that excuse doesn't fly either.

I still play despite this and will continue to play. So don't flame me and say "Leave if you don't like it". I want to see this game and I don't believe it can with stallers runing the economy.

Anyways, sorry it was so long, I was bored. Feel free to pick my argument apart.

Auction houses remove the LOCATION aspect. You couldn't profitably travel to DW to buy larger pots and sell them back in Jagan for profit. The stall system is great IMO, it is very much like real life, minus the internet. Kinda like how it was in 7 AD China.

And personally I like stalls and wouldn't play this game if they were removed. If this game were nothing more than YET ANOTHER GRIND AND PVP game I would quit. I like the business simulation aspect of it above all other aspects.

I posted in the other thread, I wouldn't mind if they ADDED an auction house, but as long as they made you pay a % fee on selling items through it just like IRL, and kept the stalls. If I wanted this game to be WoW I would play WoW.

Buyers make the price, not the sellers.
If noone buys expensive things, the prices will drop eventually.

that is the key right there, but everyone buys shit for whetever price and thats why the prices just keep going up... people just keep buying more gold O_o

gold buying sucks for buying gear. spend 40 dollars a spear? LOL. id say events cause inflation more than gold buying.

you think if buying gold dissapeared prices would go down? it'd just mean only high levels who could do trade runs (60+) would have the money. anyway every time joymax has an event prices will go up. think of it like this.

in the united states they have minimum wage. if minimum wage is raised for a year prices on things will go up somewhat. now if after a year they lowered minimum wage, do you think prices would go down?

same thing with events. its funny gold selling is the only stable part of the economy. theres also the fact that the SRO economy has no money cap, meaning there is infinite money in it. infinite money == inflation. gold buying / selling just accelerates it.

It's not because of greed, It's because gold companies and gold bots
flooded the economy with billions of gold causing the value of gold in game
to decrease = higher prices. So basically you can thank all your gold buying friends.

or you can thank the people who raised prices after events. i know my "gold buying friends" saw the price of stuff in stalls (non sos) and just said WTF. at that point it was decided this is a game, not a job.

the math is very simple
10 dollars = hour of work = 10 mil gold = 20 hours + of fun.
90k gold = hour of grinding IF your high level.

the funny thing is gold selling is the only thing that changes with the economy. and dont forget events, prices dont happen to rise after those for just any reason.

oh btw, ive grinded along side gold bots alot and man id rather have them than most players. they dont KS. dont try to steal giant kills. if i forget their bots i mistake SRO to have lots of good players.

Hey yea thats a good idea...but players have to buy food...or increase
the prices of everything..

like make using the portals 10k and not 5k....or increase the prices of
pots by a couple of 100...it would mean that you avarage staller

i.e. MR Moron would lower his pries to attract more customers

:D
