FIrst, I gotta say... I enjoyed seeing the things that Cruor found and was constantly amazed and awed but what he could dig out of those PK2 files. I admire smart people... Even people who do things that are technically wrong, I already KNOW that Cruror didnt do what he did to cheat or be illegal or anything else. I get that sense of discovering the limits of things. I have even asked Cruor for information he pulled from a PK2 file.

Ive never done it tho. Mostly cause it seems like a lot of trouble to do when I can look at Cruor's or any number of other ppl's pics instead. I dont care what my char looks like in 9th deg armor. Ill get there and be bored of seeing it soon enough.

I dont know if anyone sees the irony or not, but all the bot devs/makers.... They dont play SRO either.

I didn't know what PK2 editing was until SuicideGirl told me and to be honest i really could not be bothered to even try it-- it seems to much hard work for no reason. I like silkroad the way it is i dont want to go changing it.

I pk2 edited a few times when I was farming at 16. Just to give me some motivation to finish farming but stopped editing after a few days.

And yea Milly, garments ftw! =P

Then in late January there was the topic that finally pushed me to give it a try. It was Poseidon and Xanovaria of Greece, showing off PK2 edited 9D equipment. That day I decided to give it a try and I had it figured out by the end of the evening. I never did go and search for tutorials after all. Everything I did I figured out on my own, using my past experience from hex editing Halo PC.
.

I must admit that usually whenever a person make sa huge post, I only scan a few lines, but this time I read the whole post. I actually enjoyed reading your your summary of your pk2 history.

I'd also like to explain mine. Around november of 2006, my guildies in Ventrilo were discussing the old days of SRO. There were discussions brought up by people that played since the beta that someone way back then in early 2006 hacked the server and spawned Roc and a whole bunch of Takla monsters. Someone digged up a screenshot and show me the huge birdy. I was amazed at its size. Then another person in Vent said he'd pay Joymax $100 just to see it in the game, then at that time I thought to myself hmmmmm... since Joymax already had all the monsters inside our current SRO, it must be possible to trick the client into showing him.

Within a few hours of exploration, I found the code to change to make Roc appear, but the game kept on crashing after I logged into my character. After a bit of debugging, I figure out a trick to make the pk2 file not sensitive to edits. This was a well kept secret inside Vent as I was the only one that know how to do it and there wasn't much discussion about it. I know if I made it public, stupid people would say "OMG you bot u did it thru some botting program" or "you cheater/hacker".

Then about 2 months later, already with the 80 cap raise, we were hunting Lord Yarkan and I believe Xanovara asked me if it was possible I could have miss his spawn points... I said no way, he's a giant birdie to me... a personmust be blind to miss him. Then that's when I zipped up my media.pk2 file and send it his way with all the cool edits and 9th degree gear. He was so amazed he posted it in this thread that u were talking about ---> http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=26187 Since it was already out, I decided to post a few screenshots also. Then of course, the accusation that it was done thru botting program followed, even by the wise know-everything Manowar.

Shortly thereafter, I decided to upload a massive pk2 editing project I had done to youtube -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G87eU764ZI8 and the video gained popularity quickly and generated lots of views and comments.

At that time, the pk2 editing concept was completely new to SRF and my PM box got flooded with people asking me how it was done... I didn't respond to any of them, not because I was mean, it was b/c I was to lazy to explain or write a guide. I think a few weeks later, people figured it out and pk2 threads started to appear.

I, too, had fun with the [GM] name too. I never thought of the idea until I saw screenshots of people with it. Then when I decided to try it out and every n00b was following me around and asking me all these n00bish questions and inviting me to their guild lol.

Anyways, pk2 editing is only the tip of the iceberg on what amazing thing you can do with this game. there are many neat tricks and stuff that you can do to the sro_client.exe to greatly enhance your gaming experience and unlock some hidden stuff, but I won't disclose it though. :P

sorry for the long post. i was sleepy so i write this so I just type what comes to mind without re-reading and doing grammar check. :P

i dont edit because itd kinda spoil the game for me.

i lvled up 64 times just to wear the moon bow and see what itd look like with me holding it. After finally getting to 64, i basically quit lol and thats where i am today.

i couldve just made a char, p2k edited the lvl 1 bow and been holding a moon bow, but wheres the fun in that?

Thanks all for sharring their comments on PK2. After hearing some stories, I'm starting to understand a lot about why people would want to Pk2 edit. So far I've only seen people editing their weapon into SoS, making garments look different, and I didn't realize the potential behind it, though I'm still not interested in it.

I'm a bit disappointed nobody argued with me Armor > Garments. I was looking forward to spamming his mail box with garment rants but w/e :banghead:

Now that Euro is out, what do you think of the Euro garments? I got my Euro char to level 3x wearing 4th degree stuff but I think the style of the skirt they have is too similar for all degrees, which isn't really fun =.= I still like the Chinese better. and take a look at the Legend VII thread, the garments keep getting better and better! :P

:D rofl.

I enjoy my garment set, however a protector or armor set looks more impressive in my point of view >.<

*Stares at Sacrament with a big scary smile*

Well SRO armor isn't too pretty IMO. Other cool games have godly OMG armor and honestly those look kinda cool but no SRO armor :P

I also like garments from Granado Espada. I go where the pretty cloth are!

Whyyyy? Armor sets look better and 8D protectors too! :D
8D garments suck big time ^^

Anyways, the only hexa editing I've done was turning on the good old wind effect that Joymax had done away with, but it wasn't PK2 but a plain config file. It was so annoying to do it over and over again whenever I changed the anything (including sound volume or disabling exchange or party invites) ingame. Thank goodness wind effect is back since the big update.

Well, the Chinese 5th degree is my favorite armor set so far. But I do agree with you: the garment sets are the best looking overall.

The Euro garments are okay(I just got my character wearing the full 3rd degree set.) In my opinion, they don't start to get really interesting until you get to 6th degree.

As far pk2 editing goes, I have never tried it, nor do I intend to. It is interesting to read some the guides on it, though.

Karlos, lets talk outside :P
But if you always looked good what would you give you the motivation to level so you can look even better?

@Cloverleaf

I agree the wind effect thing was annoying. And I think people started Pk2 editing to get rid of it. I don't understand what you don't like about 8D garments >_> Its green, its pretty, the skirt is decent looking. I actually hate the 6D and 8D armor the most. Hehe 9D garment looks weirdo, and 10D armor looks kind of cool.

@Aiyas

Aw 6th degree =.= That's a long way to go.

I done Pk2 editing it really suxs over time :x
making it boring to play.
I used 8D bow on my sig cause it look cool in there with Zerk :D any proposal on changing it?

straight to the point...

this is what i all change, <<<added>>>before the euro update:
1st deg. = 6th deg.
2nd deg. = 7th deg.
3rd deg. = 8th deg.

as i said It pretty much suxs overtime if you got cool gear with LOW def rates :P
I replaced the pk2 edited file into the original... :D

at jangan I'm having hard time knowing if the character is a high level, I just look at their bufs that time. :P

well currently I'm NOT into PK2. editing...

i would pk.2 edit, but i dont know what the outcome might be.
like what if i get banned.

for me pk.2 editing is = to making mods for civ4
which is extremely easy, and VERY addictive, just messing around with shiz you shouldnt.

but joymax and firaxis are 2 dif companys with 2 dif views.

joymax if you mess with their client that = 100 year ban?
firaxis encourages people to make modded versions of civ which is the coolest thing any game company can do for people like me who cant keep thier fingers off files like media.pk2.

yep if it wasnt for that possibility of being banned, i would have 2 clients
1 pk2 edited and the other just normal
