I am one to usually shun "new idea" topics because of the usual lack of thought to solve problems or people write what everyone has thought of 100 times before

I hope my idea is not like this lol

Why not promote an idea for a new server to JoyMax which will accomodate purely legit, non-bot players. They could even ask teh srf mods to monitor the game and report bots themselves as well as implement simple bot detection like the guys at rev6.com did long ago.

A simple idea and one that is plausible and easy enough to implement.

I mean Diablo II had this idea long ago when they realeased Open and Closed servers. (Closed was monitored and hack free while open was well.. mayhem...)

We all know that bot detection is not rocket science.
We all know legits complain day in and day out about the bot situation.

So here is a simple enough solution...

Terrible idea.

Its alot harder to get rid of bots than you think. You may ban them, but they will just keep coming back. Not to mention CCF, Hacking and any other problems which would be rampant. You can completely get rid of any injustices in the game.

Actually rev6.com came up with some simple ways to "catch bots in the act":

They created a bot themselves that was placed in a spot on the map that is visibly impossible to see and also impossible to get to legitimately. They then used this bot to record who would do party invites. Since no legit person could possibly see them or get to them it would have to be a bot doing the invite and they weer recorded.

They also put some effort into tracing way points where bots would always move across.

They could even tell you what bot you were running by the different way points your char was tracing.

Hard to detect? LOL my arse they are.

P.S. if a botter was getting his bots deleted once a week you don't think he would give up?

Why SRF mods? Some might bot, you never know right?

Why make 1 server totally bot free, when they could EASILY make all of them if they put their heads together and came up with a prevention system ala PunkBuster.

I think the bottom falls outta this idea when you start thinking this game would be popular without b*ts, i dont think it would im afraid, a shame to say it. Im not being pessimistic, im just seein the bigger picture. Sorry

Gold bots make a LIVING out of botting. **** they would always just keep making them. They would also program their bots not to invite random people to parties. That get rid of your method. Need i say more?

go to jangan on an average bot infested day and take a note of how meny ppl you see there.

the difference will amaze you. when the bot is down, the noobs come out to play. they can log in. they can run around in there level 5 gear and pvp each other all day long.

if i was new to silkroad, i would never log in to the game. after 5 tries, id uninstall sro and be done with it. long time players who have a reason to play, guild/union/friends, push themselves to log in. take the bot away, and the server will fill up with normal hardworking players of all levels.

i dont. that char was a bit too hybrid. also hacked once and banned twice before that so it was never safe to begin with. half of sro knew the id and secret answer for it.

There are at least two things that keep JoyMax from banning bots, both financial. To pay programmers and mods to oversee a bot-free game is an expense they seem unwilling to pay. Also, they are afraid of the loss of revenue from banned bots. Player-botters buy plenty of silk and JoyMax revenue from iSRO would be slammed if they banned bots.

So a single, bot-free server is a proof-of-concept that 1) it doesn't cost a lot to maintain a bot-free server and 2) you can still make money from a bot-free server. If successful, you would see more of them.
