Post subject: Isn't plvling just like boting? Posted: Mon Oct 29, 2007 4:27 pm |

Ok, i know there will be different thoughts about this, but here is the thing:
I'm a guild master and also the highest lvl in my guild, so everytime i login, my guild mates "spam" me with messages: Master can you help me lvl up? Sometimes, I do, sometimes i ignore them and just talk about other things, because, i'm still not lvl 80, so I still need to lvl my self, and everyone knows how hard it is to lvl up after 60 and there are almost no one to help around other than bot, at least in the server i am. Ok, I made some rules, and told that i cannot lvl them everytime they ask me to. But, while i help them, i thought about something, watching they just riding their horses and me killing mobs: I am doing the job of a bot, lvl someone who sometimes is watching tv o having "other" fun, while i do their job. Sometimes i spend hours doing it, many people could say: it's up to you, don't do it, or It's your responsability for being the master (that's why i think sometimes). But the point is, i don't do it, someone else will, and making gold out of it, i know pepolpe who activates their bot while plvling people. But even for those who don't use a bot, aren't they being a bot for lazy people?
I hope I could express my point clearly (English is not my natural language as you could note)

it's up to u. u'r the guild leader, u set the rules.

its not realy botting but it has given the bot users yet another way to out power the normal ppl, as they can set a lvl 80 farmed bot to plvl 6 euro rogues and clerics to lvl 80 in a few months.

Just be clear. When you don't want to powerlevel people just say so.
But form an academy and you will get a lot of honor points when you powerlevel them. It might make them lazy but it will make you stronger.

I know it's not illegal. And i know it's the way the game is meant to be now. But i was just wondering if this isn't "amoral" (is that a word in english, sry). I will kinda change the question: If you were plveled to lvl 80, wouldn't you feel like you boted even if you don't use a "programmed" bot? Even if it's not "illegal"?

not really. the game starts at cap, so the shortest time it takes u to get to cap, the more fun u'll have.
it depends on the individual what they think morality is. i think u can do nething on an online game.

If someone offered to powerlevel me to 80 i would be out celebrating lol. At the end of the day its up to the player to powerlvl or not, people do it for gold so its not that bad.

Ban them from the guild then. If you see a problem or just don't want to then kick em out if they keep asking.
I plvled half the guilds euros but only cause I actually enjoy one shotting low lvl mobs and grouping them up. Also playing on a lvl 80 pure int force user was just adding to the fun. Also it was more fun having a higher lvl euro group to grind with when I didn't feel like plvling and wanted to bard it up.
Master or not if you don't want to plvl em then stop. If you do then tell whoever wants to join to come and help them out for a bit. If you have strict rules about having your members being plvled by others or bots then kick em if you find out.
-----------------------------------
You would be like every other person who's lvl 80 and say who cares I'm 80. Because if they even thought about being unlegit w/e for lvl 80 by plvl then why would they want to get plvled in the first place? I doubt they care about accomplishing levels on their own if they're asking/whining to get power leveled.....

imo plvl from like 1-40 or plvl quite a few lvls isnt right
most people want to be high lvl in no time at all and because bots arnt a legit way of doing it they have found that plvl does exactly the same thing just instead of a program doing it another person does it for you. i dont agree with it and i wont take advatage of it
if im out in a share pt with a few friends who are higher lvl and we are grinding a higher mob then i would it can be a form of plvl but ill be doing my share and fight along side.
i wont agree to go to a stupidly high mob to fight at my lvl just to gain exp.
(and yes i admit i have been plvl for like 50% but i really wanted to lvl to join in with guild jobs/wars etc) but i dont intend to do it again takes the fun out of the game for me.
tbh theres only a few people who can say i made this character my self!!!

guys ...this is the whole reason they made the academy... think a little bit.
In order to get honor points you must have a student lvl 1-29 and they must reach lvl 40 for you to get points.. now do you really think people want to wait forever for that person to lvl up? Of course not... therefore they plvl them and in a couple days you have 24 honor points, which i think is gay that it cost 1000 honor points for a sos npc sword lvl 62 ..adn you only get like 24 points per student

like it's not enaugh they do nothing and gain lvls and lvls..they want it to go even faster, heh.
anyway..don't do it if they don't lvl themself at all..and think like this : you're helping them if they do the work by themself now and then at least..there's nothing they could do(There could be but lets not get into details ) when you kill like lvl 54 mobs and they're like lvl 45 or something...if they lvl themself the legit it way..power lvl them from time to time..they need to prove they work and they don't always expect someone to do the work for them and they see this as a bit of a help as well..

couldn't have said it better myself. As an assistant guardian, i sspend a lot of time powerlevelling people from 1-20, and I get to tag along on the ice when the leader takes them from 30-40. When they are being levelled by someone else from 20-30, i do my own grinding. Luckily 20-30 takes a long time, so i get to eat lots and lots of mujigis ^_^

Thats my opinion to, and that they aren't afk ;x.
Even if they are afk its still someone grinding instead of botting, but I guess to the one getting leveled in could be like botting either way ;x.
Yea still a powerleveler can't powerlevel someone to the cap like a bot, or nearly as fastm just inda boosts through the lower lvls.

Plvling isnt botting..
Why not ?
Well Plvling is similiar to cook: You need the right timing + right stuff
For example you need the right rezept and the right equipments !
For Plvling it is neccesary to have a pan ! Without a pan you cant do anything ..got it ?
After all you need some bottles of red juice and blue juice to make your meal more tasty !
If you run out of bottles just go to the next city and buy some they shouldnt be expensive for a high lvl cooker !
Finally if you got everything... just go and prepare your meal with your pan... but dont forget to use the red juice ...it is neccesary to survive !
A cooker without bottles is a noob cooker !
While you prepare your meal you can invite some buddys to your house-share-party...why share ? cause you want to share your meal right ?
So... it is NOT Botting
Cheers

Powerlvling is NOT botting. If it were, they'd be called the same thing. Fact is, they're fundamentally different. The Academy system does not require it, but it sure does encourage it. And the whole share party system as well. Fact is, with Euro characters, it's so easy to lvl up anyways, why not just lvl up EVEN quicker with plvling? It's safe, the person being plvled is not KSing you or anything. In fact, he's usualyl just sitting on a horse riding around, or sitting down. If you don't like it, don't do it. But I don't see it's causing you any harm. And don't give me that crap about "clogging the servers" or anything because I'm sick of that argument also. We all know it's the gold-botters and regular botters who clog the servers.

That's actually not a very good example lol. That's like saying..
Walking - you get get from 1 point to another.
Flying - you get from 1 point to another.
Technically, they're both forms of locomotion, but the way they function is entirely different.
Anyone can argue that being powerleveled required the powerlevelee (:P) to not do anything which can be comparable to a botter which does around 1/10th of the work hand grinders do. But the fact of the matter is that those being powerlevelled are not using any form of automation program themselves, meaning they're not doing anything wrong. The only thing being done is using a feature of the game environment to their advantage, which is no different than, say, a trader dropping goods for a thief just so that thieve's name could appear on the Top 10, or something.
And to talk about this being morally incorrect just makes me laugh. I mean, when some of the game's finer points include thievery, deception, and murdering, why being powerlevelled is morally incorrect is just beyond me.

The outcome when comparing botting and powerleveling (PWL) is the same for the one being PWL'd.
Minimum effort, maximum gain over time. Probably the biggest reason why botting is becoming more rife.
PWL is legal within the rules of the game. At least now, JM probably did something right, and offered a legal alternative to botting. The more players do it, the less players will resort to bots. Less money spent on bots. Less business for bot developers. Less income to them.

no it's not, you know a better way to sell your stuff? This is the best way to sell your stuff unless JoyMax figures out new way, so it's acutally their fault.
