Okay I'm not very familiar with botting nor I want to be, but here's a technical question I've been wondering about for a while...
Let's say the player named X is a botter, but he never got banned. Then there's player gfgffg, whose purpose is to farm gold 24/7.
Here's the question, is JoyMax able to detect botting users automatically, as in some weird feature, or do they have to manually investigate?
If it's the first one, well they're doing a pretty good job rotting the game with botting morons.
But if it is the second one, wouldn't that be a lot of work?

I'm pretty sure they can check through logs / packets or something like that.

Main reason gold bots are banned and user bots are not, is because Joymax's anti-bot system only detects bots that disrupt the server.
Most gold bots are easily detectable because they modify server packets while from what i remember, user bots do not modify packets or not as aggressively( not exactly sure ).

Yes, and no. I know from all my lame a$$ friends who bot, some use modified clients and I know several people who have actually been banned for doing it in the past.
if you ever wondered why you get lag when there is no server traffic, or in lagless areas, it's because Joymax is scanning the system.
They need to scan Takla on the botter hill.

Gold bot = clientless
Player bots = run off the game client
and yeah, jm manually investigates, if thier game guard was working, they wouldnt have to.

casey you can always quit. not trying to be pessimistic, but you'll basically have to deal with botting for your entire sro career
botting is a problem that will probably never be fixed. Even if joymax bans the player bots... they will just come back as they did from teh previous player ban.

Any bots that were banned last night are probably already recreated and back in the game.

You're confused. A bot is a bot is a bot is a bot. I'm sure you're aware of how no yellow box on a SS with a skill = botter - that's proof that every SRO bot trains via packet transfer. (they don't modify any packets, because a lvl 20 using lvl 80 skills would set off a plethora of alarms - granted they could) Gold companies use the same bots that player botters use, except they use their own technology in addition to it, called "Clientless" It basically makes it so that you don't have to load a client to bot, therefore allowing however many clients the PC can handle without lagging out due to too many bot clients.

I think you're only half right.
Botting will never be fixed with Joymax current "actions"... Or rather lack of serious ones.
Real GMs hardly log in, there is basically no company representative available constantly, let alone 24/7.
Someone (can't remember who nor where I saw this) suggested implementing the same image code system as at login, only it would pop up in-game at given intervals. I think that could be a cost-effective and efficient solution, though the intervals should be a bit random.

In the "official" forums an admitted botter said that they send the same packets that we non botters send. So I started looking into this. As I was watching some sro vids on you tube I noticed one about bots and how to install them. I watch it and from what I notcied after watching several of them is that the bot is like a virtual piece of hardware (like virual disk drives) pressing the buttons for you. Making it impossible for bots to be detected automatically. If this is the case it wouldn’t disrupt the packets or the client itself at all. Leaving us screwwed in this "war" with the bots. At least untill they make a pattern recognition type software. So I believe the answer to your question is no they cant be detecdted automatically. Probably why they say to submit bot reports, and why they have to investigate.

2 Bad you guys weren't around when rev6 went anti bot for like a month. It was pretty funny how they managed to detect all players using ISRO bot. It took them only about 3 days.
Also I can't comment on other bots but REVbot made by rev6 sends "bad" packets. They specifically said so on their website. They said not to use their bot after that update that blocked client modification until they knew joymax's plan.
So to answer the original question their is no manual bot detection needed. Joymax can simply monitor a characters action. Most bots have a specific walking path for example. Most human players can't play non stop for 24hrs. Bots follow very specific patterns that a human couldn't recreate by accident.
On top of all that yes the data is often corrupted like the bot companies admit to so it wouldn't take any effort to effectively render current bottom programs completely useless.
So the point is if you can create a game as intricate as this you could easily create antibot programing.
So...........Why play a game with no rule enforcement? Not sure I am still working on the answer to that question.
BTW before christmas they will most likely ban some bots it happens every year so don't get excited when it happens, they won't change their ways unless a real company buys this game.
