Depends on what you are looking to do.
If you want to send everyone out to buy full combat fatigues at the surplus store, rent a large expanse of urban or forested land and some jeeps, and spend days constructing flawless battle plans for either side, then go for airsoft.
Otherwise just go for paintball.

airsoft is for realisticness and firepower is not a problem once you get M4 gas powered assault rifles. And the realisticness is fun! you don't have funny looking guns that just take away the taste for having some action and feeling like a U.S marine. Too bad with airsoft, it screws your playing field with pellets. You can get biodegradeble airsoft bullets but ther not cheep

i enjoy a nice game of tennis, but for some strange feeling shooting my fellow man with paintballs as I run and hide through a forest is so much more fun....

Lol agreed. Unless you have a bunch of friends who go airsofting at an official field place weekly, you won't do much with your airsoft gun except watch it collect dust. On the other hand, they are much more realistic than paintball guns.

Plus they are near identical to the real thing. All you need is a dremel to make them legal, but they cost a lot more about $900 USD ++ for one.

Airsoft is for war vets that want to get out but are too fragile to be shot by a paintball gun.
Paintball is for the younger group that want to be part of a more physical game: see competitive speedball.
