Here is a video I made with InstantDemo of the latest project I am working on. It is a small utility that will allow you to create your own Music.pk2 file with customized 'theme music' in Silkroad. Pk2 modding/editing is nothing new and has become quite popular, but there are no automated tools that speed up the process and let everyday people do it.

If you hex edit the PK2s, you have to keep the file size the same since the PK2 header file is encrypted. If you know how to decrypt the header, you can change it so it uses a new file of different size and reencrypt it so Silkroad can use it. That's what this tool does. Right now I made this tool specifically for Music.pk2 but I am working on others for the more commonly edited stuff.

It is my goal to make a few of these tools to let Silkroad players get a little more excitement when playing with the music on. I am doing this to try and make more useful utilities as well as learn more programming and reversing skills. Once you've played Silkroad as long as most people here have, hearing that same old music makes you kind of sick. (Well, it makes me :P)

Anyways, here's a short and not perfect video demo of it (not going to redo it to fix mistakes because of how many times it takes to sync audio right). I have a beta version of this tool being tested to see if three are any bugs because of how I have the pk2 creation process setup (not certain on all of it). So far, it's worked great for me though.

The nice thing about this is you can quickly create a substitute music.pk2 and use it one day, then switch to another and so on and so forth. Sure, you can just turn off music and play Winamp or WMP instead, but if you wanted to make a game conversion or lots of mods, that's where this comes in handy. You can even disable all themes and have a small music .pk2 which will cut down on Silkroad's resources as well.

I'm not posting links to the program here since the update is in a few days and this is just a beta tool. After the update if time permits, I'll ask if the link can be shared. So, if it's not ME posting the tool on another forum, don't download the file. There are a lot of people that try to impersonate and pass off work as their own, so it's not always safe to use their stuff.

Ey Drew ^^ Anyway the music is turned off in my SRO so cba to pk2 my own music in it. Have a music player for that xD

It being named "Music".pk2 doesn't mean you have to insert just the stuff you usually listen to but you could also create your very own theme music or concepts that fit the scenery alot better than the original ones... so this opens alot of new ways to customize the game the way YOU like it.

Another great piece of work Drew, I just feel it already that certain paranoid mods will lock this before they collapse due to seeing 0x33, PK2 and your name in one place >,>

Actually he didn't mention 0x33. Hope the mods won't lock it then.

Meh, he did nothing wrong or posted anything wrong.. :o didn't mention 0x33 in any part of the vid.

He didn't mention it, but it appears in the title for the tool (in the video) ... and I am the last person having a problem with that, since I know that community is about more than the.. b-thing.

I was rather pointing out that some mods tend to react allergic when seeing the name(s)... so spare your smart comments for things concerning the topic from now on ;)

P.S.: And about "him doing something wrong" ... I guess he couldn't care less than if somebody sees the connection on first or second sight ;)

nice I remember I was asking about something similar like a year ago :P

would it be possible to add some sound?, I remember a file you could add to your GuildWars directory and you had UnrealTournament ''headshot, double kill, triple kill'' when u were killing people.

Awesome work. Decrypting the index is like the holy grail, it literally makes anything possible. :shock:

The only thing left to be done with PK2 editing now is to document each file format and make converters/plugins for modifying them. After that, the sky's the limit. Combine all of this with a future private server project with patching capabilities for distribution and there could be some very interesting results. :)

Are you considering making some sort of patch file format to go along with your tools?
