Does anyone know how to like extract the audio track off of a video or something like that?

I really want to take a audio track off of a stand up comedy I really like and listen to it on my ipod.

Any help would be appriciated. Thxs :love:

Your best bet is to demux it with VirtualDubMod.

Under Linux you'd use mplayer; I believe it's available for MS Windows too.

Recording means you loose quality. Demuxing is always the best option.

Yeah, but I never noticed a real change of quality in any music I recorded with realplayer :)

Maybe I don't hear a difference anymore because I screwed my ears with too much loud music <_<"

Video files have separate streams for video, audio, and subtitles/captions. Demuxing simply separates the streams into separate files. This means you have zero data loss. The problem with recording things using something like Audacity is that your recording isn't going to be 100% faithful to the original, and you have to re-compress it, losing quality. If you're an audiophile like me, (I keep all my music in lossless formats), any loss of quality is not acceptable. Not only that, but recording must be done in real time, while demuxing is instant.

That said, I think this is what OP is looking for:

Thanks. and I'm not sure which version of VirtualDubMod has the "Demux" function, I can't seem to find it.

i use sony soundforge for this, but i would imagine any audio editor that can open video files will allow you to do it. examples would be audacity, wavelab, etc.

It's in Streams->Stream list.
