WOOT! Holy sh1t, did anyone watch UFC 79? Last two fights were the best. Wanderlei Silva wasn't himself. If he used the clinch, he would've ran Liddell over. I guess there can only be one winner and GSP totally beat Matt hughes at his own game. Discuss?

It seem like that to non-mma fans, but It's the best way to fight on the ground and that would be jiu-jitsu/wrestling. However, MMA is not all about the ground game, remember that.

Was kinda rooting for Silva to put away the Iceman once and for all. I guess Silva isn't used to the cage and a bit slow-paced unlike the PRIDE fights where It's a small ring instead and the fighters are always duking it out.

With all due respect dom, that doesn't prove anything. Their just based off of your experience. Besides, that's just like saying basketball is crap because all you do is throw balls in hoops(just an example).
Anyways, Wanderlei is all washed up now, especially after Mirko Cro Cop kicked his neck off from their last fight. Not sure about Liddell, but he's like 37 years old. ;m not sure how much he'll last in MMA, but hey, things are possible. I mean the Heavyweight champ is freaken 43 years old (Randy Couture).

Now now girls, dom is right. Maybe from the view of a wrestling fan it looks perfectly macho and not gay at all, but I admit it grosses me out a bit..

Yeah, I used to think it looked gay, but after I watched all the brutal brawls, painful takedowns, I appreciated it. I guess it depends on how you see it. However, MMA isn't just wrestling.

If you wanna see something better, try watching PRIDE fights. They dont have any rules except for strikes to the groin, spine, and back of the head. other than that you can do whatever you want.

I watched some old UFC videos from way back, had mostly dudes from other countries. Fights rarely lasted longer than the first round and only **** would bring it to the ground to sub people out. Like Royce Gracie. I watched like 4 of his old matches, all he did was hang onto the dude's back until he got tired and gave up. Which is why he got his ass kicked by Matt Hughes, since he never let him get a chance.

The first few UFC matches we're just a start. Nowadays people know the ideal martial arts styles in MMA. Royce Gracie was just too old for UFC when he fought again. His added some striking to his fight style but that didn't save him from being hit by a kimura from Hughes.

Good to see some mixed martial arts fans on SRF. I was really disappointed by Wanderlei's loss. I wanted to see him KO Liddell. At least Georges didnt disapoint, he picked apart Hughes and beat him at his own game
And to people saying boxing is better, I have to argue. Boxing is just punching. MMA is wrestling, judo, jujitsu, boxing, muy thai, etc. Its way more exciting. People can be knocked out or submitted. Theres so many things you need to be good at and thats what makes it great.

Boxing's definitely not just punching, it's very technical. It takes a certain level of skill and endurance to go 15+ rounds getting slugged and blocking/dodging hits almost nonstop along the way. I respect both sports, boxing just seems more simple because you have two guys trying to KO each other with nothing but their fists and quick thinking.

+1
But hey, at least it is not fake like the WWE. The UFC still has them beat the shit out of each other. The WWE is just men grabing each other.

Yeah Liddell caught him off guard with a backfist. I thought Silva would learn to avoid that after that fight with Dan Henderson. I think Silva was afraid to get knocked out and I think that's what kept him getting in the clinch with Liddell. That staredown was vicious though lol. Man, If Silva fought him like he did with Rampage Jackson (Current UFC Light Heavyeight Champion), it would be over in the first round. His knees are vicious, too bad he didn't use em.

A lot of people are saying that the reason Silva and Shogun (and many other Pride fighters) were so aggressive was because of steroids. This could be a possibility because steroid use was allowed in Japan.
Silva is a bad matchup for Liddell. Liddell is a counter puncher and his biggest strength is when his opponent is aggressive and rushes in for the kill, which is what Silva likes to do. Silva showed his strong chin in that fight though. He really did need that clinch, but Liddell's reach wouldnt allow him to get it.

Oh well, I'd like to see Mirko Cro Cop fight again. That match between him and Cheick Congo sucked and he couldn't do his high kicks without Cheick kneeing him to the balls 12 times which was total crap. Hopefully Mirko has already worked on his ground game especially after fighting Gabriel Gonzaga. His elbows on the ground rocked Mirko and then finished him off by knocking him out with his own move.
Speaking of knockouts, I would LOVE to see Mirko duke it out with Chuck Liddell, just a matter of getting in the same weight division since Mirko is Heavyweight and Chuck is Light Heavywieght. We're talking about the two most feared knockout artists. One coming from UFC and one coming from PRIDE. Chuck is known for his 1-punch knockout power, but Mirko has the upperhand because of how many tools he can bring to the arena. He can take it to the ground and lay the Ground N' Pound on him and we all know Chuck is weak on the ground, but has excellent takedown defense. One perfect kick to the head would send him to the floor. Chuck loves to make people rush at him and land a counter punch which is how he wins most of his fights, but Mirko also loves to stalk his opponent and finish him off with those devasting kicks, so their very matched up.
Mirko Cro Cop ash the most brutal kicks. You can see why after seeing his fights in PRIDE. He broke Gabriel Gonzaga's and Bob Sapps(Can you believe how big Bob Sapp is?!) ribs with just one kick and the referee instantly stopped the fight.
On the side note, I can't believe how easily tired Shogun got when he fought Forrest Griffin and that was only the start of second round. I guess that has to do with steroids. :\

Which is probably why Kevin Randleman moved to Pride FC: Steroids. More muscle for the guy who has the neck the size of a boiler.
I was surpised to see Wanderlei trying to brawl it out with Chuck. He got rocked but Chuck never managed to knock him down even after exploding. You could see him trying his best to land his strongest punches, but slowed down because he got tired. Wanderlei had a lot of heart. You can notice Rampage Jackson shaking his head in dissaproval, after the ref stopped the fight. I'd like to see Rampage face off with Chuck and knock him out again .
