I started playing Rappelz today, I have to say the game aint for me. But they have a unique way of preventing, or atleast helping to prevent botting. They have random monsters than spawn, called Baby moon rabbits, if you target them too much you get kicked from the server, and eventually get banned if it continues. As far as i can tell this could easily be implemented into sro, seeing as they have party mobs, which seem to work on a similar system. Thoughts?

If I understand it right, there are just random mobs and if you target it too much you get kicked? that seems kinda gay, what if you accidentally do it?

Coudln't bots just be able to not target something anyway?

They had "protectors" a while ago >.>, that was just some ball thing ppl could summon, if you atk it you die instantly, it was pretty pointless, you could summon 1 per hour lol.

Well you cant attack the mobs in Rappelz, its working for rappelz so it must be doing something, i didnt see a single bot on there, although i seen a Gm within 1hour of playing..

you cant "accidentally" hit them, since you've to press like alt+double click or something to target THOSE anti mobs things.

I've played rappelz (still do), and i've seen that.

Also, you dont get "kicked" out of the server, you've just sent to the abbyss (some kind of jail), and you get debuffed by -90% of all your stats and speed. And to get out of it you've to talk/send-an-email to the GM's and they release you.

Its a great idea, but i'm sure they'd be able to write a script to get around this, however still i suggest you suggest this on the main site :)

Just because botters can get around obstacles, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be implemented. Even the smallest practical anti-botting system can contribute.

did you ever tried restart? it will eventually lose the cooldown making it possible to make more than 2 of a summon... bad thing though if you dont have premium and the server is crowded, better not to do it at all. :P

The game has been out for over a year now, and looks promising that there isnt alot of cheating going on. The customer support is excellent for a f2p game.

Rappelz is just another F2P "acting" game. It has GPotato like silk in SRO and it is impossible for you to level up if you don't buy GPotato. Things in their item mall is more expensive than SRO also.

Only thing to stop bots in SRo is this:

Every char should have do a job at least 1 hour (or another certain amount of time) in a week.
And the time should pass by only when you are out of the safe zone. So gold bots won't be able to log in any more because they do not have jobs!

Even if they find a way to get out of the safe zone we can kill them all without being PK! :)

the pb with that is, that it dont would work on sro, cuz the bot attacks mobs with a id, just get the bunny id say never attack it, and the "problem" is solved, so that wont work, anyway its a old topic... :(

The moon rabbit thing isn't such a bad idea, although it wouldn't be too hard to reprogram the bots to not attack them.

One thing about bots, they always (at least gold bots) seem to go to the exact same location as each other for each of the NPCs. They all follow a predefined path (possibly some slight variance) and stand right on top of each other.

Joymax could put some kind of monitor in place on the server to watch "well known" bot checkpoints at each NPC. If you stand on that spot, you get flagged - not banned, but flagged as suspicious. If you get too many flags (say you stop at say 5 or 10 checkpoints like that) then you get banned automatically.

They could put some kind of thresholds onto that, so a real player could accidentally stand on a couple of those within say 15 minutes and not get flagged, or have the flags cleared if they stay under the threshold.

It's pretty obvious what coordinates each bot hits on a regular basis. The server should be able to identify which characters fit those patterns, mark them as "suspicious" and if they continue to be "suspicious" for too long, banhammer.

I introduce to you 2 methods to squish unattended bots. The first is called a boulder. You can't walk through it only around it. Set it on the bot path out of town and watch pile ups ensue. 2nd is a random town exit maze. Simple enough right? Simple to implement as well right? Do you know why we don't have something like that? Because joymax likes crowded servers and the gold bots give them that. So lets drop pointless discussion of things joymax will never do.

I would absolutely love to see a huge boulder come out of the sky in-game and land on top of some random bot, crushing him to the ground similar to cartoons when a 10-ton weight is slammed onto someone.

We NEED that NOW! :-D

programmers will sipply code not add the code to target those mobs??? are you serious with that? that will only stop pixel bots. programmers have to add in code for each and every monster that it targets.

I think this is best idea so far, and that would work 100%

In my opinion, joymax knows perfectly well who bots and who doesnt. it's just the question of who they want to ban and who they dont..

Crap idea.
Why cant they get protection so that nothing is able to inject sro_client.exe and connect successfully, Punkbusters? Maybe a REAL GameGuard that works? Develop own protection? -_-

or even a Button in the Actions menu "Report Botter" and GM's check it out

Lazy joymax

in SoF they have these scare crows, which act just like creeps, but if u attack them for a certain period of time, u get kicked from the server
