My fire shield:

My Jewelry:

Burn w/o Fire Shield on:

Burn w/ Fire Shield on:

Now the math:

To get the base burn effect, we have to take out the effect of the jewelry

So 132=.87*burn since I have 13% reduction from jewelry, the full unreduced burn effect is given by solving this.

We get burn=151.7= ~152

Now that we have the full burn effect, we'll calculate the result of fire shield both by % and with absolute reduction to see which gives the correct number

First by absolute: Final=Burn-.13*burn-64

So by this we get final effect number as 68.24= ~68

This obviously is not correct since my final effect with fire shield on was 34, not 68

Not Absolute Reduction

Now we calculate by %: Final=Burn-.13*burn-.64*burn

So by this we get the final effect as 34.96= ~35

Hmm. which is closer 35 or 68? The minor error is probably due to Joymax rounding down, rather than up.

So Final Conclusion:

Fire Shield is a % Reduction!!!!!

If I see any more threads stating fire shield is an absolute reduction I will mercilessly spam it with links to this post.

PS: Maybe a stickie so people can easily find this?

That's actually low. Closer to 10+ hours a day.

I took a week off work to visit home last week and I didn't play as much as I normally do. I'm back at work now and I have 6 graveyard shifts in a row XD

Phiew...luckily i never ask this question. In other words, it is possible to get 100% of immunity.

By the way it took me 10 minutes to fully understand what he meant...so those new players out there like me, please think a little bit more before asking such questions

That still has yet to be comfirmed, either way. There is speculation both ways. It's one of those things that people are going to argue about, and you'll only really be able to find out yourself.
It really depends on how the game does its calculations.

Does it add up all it's percentages and then calculate them all in one run? If so, it'd be like Diablo 2's calculations. 25% on an amulet and 25% on a spell makes 50%. (although they set a max resist cap of 95% with spells)

However, if they calculate armour and then spells, one after the other, then it would be mathematically impossible to get 100% reduce (unless it was all on one item, or all on your armour, or whatever). Ok, example.. It's easier to think of in my head this way.
An item costs 10 dollars in a store, and is 25% off. The store is also having 25% off the whole store. 25% and 25% does NOT mean the item is 50% off (5 dollars). You take it one at a time. 25% off makes it 7.50. then 25% off of that makes it 5.62.
You could get really close to 100%, but there's still be a small amount left. This would explain Ice_Warrior's freezing.

it all adds up. I have 67 from fire shield and 35% from jewelry. Anyone on troy is welcome to cape me and try to freeze me, I'm immune. Hell, I'll even make a vid if peopel want.

Maxed fire shield gives 78% reduction, so you'd need a minimum of 22% to be immune

For awhile I thought it was an absolute reduction until I tested it myself. Now people won't take my word for it so I had to give them proof that I could refer them too every time they said "no, ur wr0ng"
