Hi.

When my friend and I are playing together at the same roauter only one of us can play. The other gets the C10 error.

Why does that happen and is there anything to do about it.

Please help ASAP.

was more stated towards the other poster.

anyways is it always the same one who gets the error or is it the
one who tries to play last?

It is the one who plays last. The person who logs into the game first has no problem playing at all but the other gets the C10 . It has never succeeded for us to play at the same time.

I could have sworn I've answered these questions a number of times already. :) Anyway, the short answer is:
Your problem is caused by a faulty NAT (Network Address Translation) implementation of your router. Several routers are known to have bad port forwarding algorithms that causes this kind of behavior, and it's not limited to SRO, but to all fixed port TCP connections. You will need to buy yourself another router I fear, or find a way to perform a port forwarding on your own computer (I don't work with Windows enough to know how to do that).
If you want the long explanation, just let me know, and I'll see if I can dig up the story again sometime. :)

Well, I haven't tested this yet, but if you have problems ask a local friend with some networking knowledge to help you out.

Port forwarding on Windows XP:
http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/NA ... on_Sharing
TCP ports used by SRO:
http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=42905

Just forward the ports from the 2nd link towards some ports in that same number area, and see if that solves your problem.

The first link gives information on how to activate port forwarding on Windows XP. This process is no different on Azureus than on SRO, but I happened to find the information on the Azureus website. It is my hope that if you use the Windows XP port forwarding to forward the local TCP port to another local port, that you can avoid the NAT problem within your router. Since I don't have a NAT problem with my router I cannot test this at home.

Read http://computer.howstuffworks.com/nat.htm if you want to know more about what NAT actually does.

Hmm, I did some checking on the advice given on that page, and I've come to the conclusion that it probably won't help to solve your problem unless you can change the configuration of your network by letting one computer use the other as a router. Anyone online that knows enough about Windows networking software to find a solution? Are you sure you can't shell out a little bit of money for a proper router? These things aren't _that_ expensive are they?

Here is the deal. I'm on a school which we live on for a year. And there is wireless internet over the whole school. And for a couple of weeks ago the teachers put a restriction on the router so that we can't use P2P network and that kind of stuff. In the beginning we could not even play Silkroad bur then i found a program called Your Freedom that openen all the ports that had been blocked and it did so that the firewall on the router didn't block anything. Including Your Freedom I also had to install an other program called Sockscap. That way I could play silkroad online for an hour before the connection went down because Your Freedom only worked for an hour because it was the free version. It is only possible for one from the school to play. So when i'm playing my roomie can't and the other way around.

And because we are at this school it is not possible for me to set up another router.

I know this made the whole deal a lot more difficult but if anyone has got an other idea of how to come through the firewall and all that stuff I will be ever thankful.

I am not quite sure why this would be a problem to be honest. Why not buy your own NAT router, have it connect to the wireless school router, and have your own PC connect to your own router? Depending on your school's router, this might solve your problem. None of your friends have a wireless router you could borrow to give it a try?

What you can try is to set static IP's on one computer, since port forwarding only works when you have a static IP. Then you can enable the built-in XP firewall on the other computer, and put it in the DMZ. This means that that computer will not be protected by the router (thus no NAT), but you have to make sure you have a firewall and that Silkroad is set as an exception.

First you need to access your router. You generally find out how to do this by looking in the documentation, where it will tell you what address to go to (i.e. 192.168.1.1) configure your router. Make sure you know the username and password to logon too. Now logon to the router. Check that there's a section labeled "DMZ" or "De-Militarized Zone", and that there's a section labeled "Port Forwarding". Make sure you have both computers turned on before continuing, and that they can both access the internet.

What you do next is go to Start, Run, and type cmd. Type ipconfig /all. Your internet connection should be called Local Area Connection. Make sure it shows up, along with data on IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Servers. Now, keeping this window open, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network Connections. Right click on Local Area Connection and go to properties. Then click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", and click Properties. Click on the box labeled "Use the following IP Address." Copy the data that is in the black colored window to the right places in the Properties box you just opened. (Example: If in the black window it says IP Address is 192.168.100.100, then make sure you copy this into where it says IP Address in the Properties window. Do this for IP Address, Subnet mask, and Default Gateway. Double check it's correct. Next, click on "Use the following DNS Servers addresses". Back in the black window, where it says DNS Servers copy the first address into "Preferred DNS Server", and the second address into "Alternate DNS Server". Double check. Click Ok, Ok again, and Close. Make sure you keep the black window open.

Now you log in onto the router. Find where it says "Port Forwarding". Call this forwarding SRO, in the port range put 15779-15779. Select TCP. Where it asks for the IP address to forward to, put in the address that the black window tells you. Remember to save. You've successfully set up the first half.

Now go to the other computer, and repeat this process beginning from opening the black window and typing in ipconfig /all. Make sure you put in the right information. Continue with the previous instructions up to the part where you log on into the router. Keep the black window open. Before logging on into the router, go to Start, Run, and type wscui.cpl. Now click on "Windows Firewall". On the general tab, click "On (Recommended)". Then go to the Exceptions tab. Click Add Program, then navigate to the SRO folder and choose silkroad.exe. Hit OK. Now, add another program, this time going to the SRO folder and choosing sro_client.exe. Now you need to logon to the router. Make sure the black window is still open, and then go to the section labeled DMZ. Select "Yes"/"Enable" or something of the sort. Where it asks for the IP address, copy over the address from the black window. Remember to save. Reboot both computers, and test SRO. You should be done.

When you go thru a router, technically you only have 1 IP address, the one assigned to the router. When connecting to silkroad you cant have 1 IP address open 2 connections (which is what your trying to do). Unless you are able to register 2 different IP addresses from your service provider, i think your SOL

Unplugging a router and plugging it back in isn't going to do anything except possibly resetting your configuration. Unplugging and plugging back in the modem might possibly increase your connection speed a slight tad, but has nothing to do with routers.

Technically, yes, you only have 1 IP address, however, the silkroad client utilizes different port numbers, thus it is possible for both to be receiving data at the same time. Then, by putting one computer in a DMZ (thus outside the router). With the other one inside the router, the possibility of it working should increase.
